The Gran Hotel Havana Trotcha

I resti della bellissima facciata, oggetto del precedente post , appartenevano al Gran Hotel Trotcha , sicuramente uno degli alberghi più eleganti dell’Avana di fine ‘800.
Fu fatto costruire dal catalano Buenavuentura Trotcha Formaguera , arrivato a Cuba nel 1850 e dedito al commercio fino al 1880. Da questa data si dedicò, invece, alla compravendita di terreni dove costruiva lussuose residenze da sell to the wealthy families of Havana who were moving gradually toward the Cerro El Vedado.

In 1902 the Catalan decided to expand the hotel and building a new lock on a ground nearby. The building, two floors of wood, was called El Eden .
was expanded again in 1904 with the construction of the Washington , a brick structure three stories high.
The Grand Hotel Trotcha worked until the crisis of the thirties, when it was converted into a guest house with 60 rooms. In 1986, a fire destroyed completely, leaving only a few remains.
The ashes of the old hotel, it is appropriate to say it should be interesting, while keeping the facade built in 1886, the new Hotel Trotcha. The competition for the award of projects, of which we can see an elaborate below, was won in 2007 by architects Cuban José Antonio Choy and Julia León .
